- Bicentennial Medal - 2019
Margie A. Weller began her education at Indiana University after World War Two. Her husband Bob attended as well, and she chose to work to support him until he received a degree in business. Both Wellers remained huge IU fans; Bob served on the university’s Board of Advisors for 30 years, and they were both active in helping to establish IU East as a regional campus. Weller played a central role in establishing a good, strong alumni group to raise scholarship and donate funds to the campus; her grass roots efforts helped establish the, then, Wayne County IU Alumni Club bringing together IU Alumni in the Richmond area for social and philanthropic events. In the late 1980’s, Weller was elected to the executive committee of the IU Alumni Association, and in that role facilitated many distinguished university executives.
Weller is a lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association and the mother and grandmother of a large family of IU alumni. In 2019, she received Indiana University’s Bicentennial Medal, which honors distinguished and distinctive service, in support of the university’s mission, given to individuals who have enlarged the footprint of IU, or have helped to put IU on the map in unique ways.
