About Cynthia Powers

Cynthia Powers received a B.A. in English and an M.A. in College Student Personnel, both from Indiana State University. An Indiana native, Power's connection to Indiana University began with serving as a counselor and staff member at Indiana University Northwest; she now serves on the board of advisors for the university.

Powers and her husband, Mamon, started Powers Realty, Inc. in 1970. His attention eventually focused on the development of a construction company, and Powers stood at the helm of the real estate business. She purchased a Century 21 franchise, and has since grown a successful realtor business. In addition to her company, Powers has extensive leadership experience from serving in a variety of roles for civic, cultural, educational, and charitable organizations in Indiana, specifically the northwest region.

Powers has served on the ISU Alumni Board and the President's National Advisory Board. She is a member of the ISU Board of Trustees, she currently serves on the board of advisors for the Lubeznik Center of Arts, and the Northwest Indiana Council of the United Negro College Fund, which she additionally cofounded. Additionally, she is a member of the Northern Indiana Chapter of the Links and a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Powers has received numerous accolades, including being inducted into The Times of Northwest Indiana's Business and Industry Hall of Fame and earning Indiana State's Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2019, Powers received Indiana University's Bicentennial Medal, in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the northwest Indiana region and community.
