- Bicentennial Medal - 2019
Ellie Mallory was married to Bill Mallory; Bill was a former IU football coach, serving as a collegiate head coach from 1969-1996. The Mallory's raised three boys, all of whom played and coached football, and they also had a daughter. After Bill left coaching at IU, he and Ellie chose to stay in Indiana and made Bloomington their permanent home. They invested in the local area, extending the goodwill they provided for years through the IU football program, while becoming community pillars in Monroe County.
Both during and after Bill's coaching tenure at IU, Ellie Mallory has been a revered figure for those who played under the former Indiana coach. Many former athletes remember her as having a calming influence on students, and making everything feel like home, as though they were a large extended family. Mallory's relationship with the university has continued; she even served as IU's honorary captain for the Penn State game in 2018. In 2019, Mallory received Indiana University's Bicentennial Medal, in recognition of her service and longstanding support of the university.
