About Casey B. Cox

Casey B. Cox is an IU alumnus and former student trustee on the IU Board of Trustees. Cox earned a B.A. from IU Bloomington and J.D. from the Maurer School of Law at IUB. He was appointed the sixteenth student trustee by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005 and served a two-year term.

During his undergraduate career, Cox became involved in student government, culminating in serving as president of the IU Student Association during the 2003-2004 academic year. Cox's administration focused on a variety of issues, including an expanded late-night campus bus service, an online book exchange, and a library drop box for returning material. In addition, he served as a special assistant for civic engagement with the Division of Student Affairs, an undergraduate legislative assistant for Hoosiers for Higher Education, a member of the Dean of Students Advisory Board, and Delta Chi fraternity.

Upon completion of his law degree, Cox began his career with the Fort Wayne law firm of Beers Mallers Backs & Salin, where he focused on business law, corporate law, municiple law, and litigation. He also serves as the city attorney for the City of Woodburn, Indiana. In 2008, Cox was appointed to the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission by the Fort Wayne Common Council, responsible for promoting development projects in Fort Wayne, particularly in the downtown area. Cox also served as an Indiana State Representative (HD85) from 2013 to 2016 as well as chairman of the Campaign Committee for Congressman Jim Barber.

Cox received the IU Bicentennial Medal in September 2019 in recognition of his distinguished service as the sixteenth student trustee on the IU Board of Trustees.
