About Erin M. Breese

Erin H. Breese is an IU alumna and was the fifteenth student trustee on the IU Board of Trustees. Breese earned her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN., and a Ph.D. and M.D. from the IU School of Medicine. She was appointed by Governor Frank O'Bannon to serve a two-year term as student trustee in 2003.

Upon completion of her medical degree, Breese completed her residency in pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children in the IU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics. From 2011 to 2014 she held a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship through Stanford University at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. During that period, she held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Hematology/Oncology within the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford, where she researched pathogenesis of childhood leukemia. She remained at Stanford as an instructor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology within the Department of Pediatrics (2014-2015) before taking a position as assistant professor of clinical pediatrics in the Division of Oncology at the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute in the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Breese served on the Trustees' Academic Affairs and University Policy Committee, Campus Community Committee, Facilities Committee, and Long-Term Planning and External Relations Committee during her tenure on the IU Board of Trustees. At the same time, Breese received the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need Fellowship (2002-2003) and a Cancer Biology Pre-Doctoral Fellowship (2003-2004). She was elected a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Lyman T. Meiks Research Award. Breese is published in multiple journals including Molecular and Cellular Biology, DNA and Cell Biology, and Pediatric Neurology.

Breese received the IU Bicentennial Medal in September 2019 in recognition of her distinguished service as the fifteenth student trustee on the IU Board of Trustees.
