Larry Stevens received an undergraduate degree in biology from Indiana University and his M.D. from the IU School of Medicine. Stevens received the Marcus Ravdin award for highest academic performance during his time earning his M.D. Stevens completed general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after which he undertook an abdominal transplant surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. Stevens is a dedicated Hoosier whose service to IU has continued throughout his professional career; he is currently serving on the board of directors for IU Health.
Stevens currently serves as medical director of perioperative services at Methodist Hospital and is the medical director of quality for IU Health Physicians. While his career began in abdominal transplant, after several years he moved to laparoscopic surgery, which was just entering the medical scene.
administrative duties as Methodist’s operating room director, leading 400 employees, more than 100 surgeons and 100 anesthesiologists. However, due to his love of and interest in patient care, Stevens still spends about half his time in the operating room, performing mostly gall bladder, hernia and hiatal surgeries.
In 2019, Stevens received Indiana’s Bicentennial Medal, in honor and recognition of his distinguished contributions and years of service to the field of medicine and healthcare profession.
