Joan J. Finch received degrees from Evansville College, Indiana University, the University of Evansville, and was the first female high school principal in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC).
Finch is a tireless supporter of women employed by the EVSA and the greater Evansville community overall. She serves on the Board of the EVSC Alumni Association and the Evansville Retired Teachers Association. She also serves as chairperson for the Supervisory Committee of the Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union. Finch is a member of the Evansville area Alpha Kappa Alpha Society and has chaired Founders’ Day and Arbor Day activities since 1957. She received the Golden Hoosier Award from the State of Indiana, the American Red Cross Award for Service and Dedication and was inducted into the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame. In 2019, Finch was awarded Indiana University’s Bicentennial Medal in recognition of her distinguished service and support of education and community.
