- Bicentennial Medal - 2019
Christopher Todd Cummings received an M.S. degree in secondary school administration and principalship from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration from Indiana State University. He additionally studied at Harvard University, in graduate education, receiving a strategic data fellowship. Cummings has remained engaged and connected with Indiana University, specifically, IU South Bend.
Cumming is currently superintendent of South Bend Community School Corporation. In this role, his handling and leadership during the coronavirus pandemic that closed schools in March and shifted education to virtual learning for months, earned high praise from superiors. When the district began to introduce in-person instruction in stages with safety protocols, Cummings was a primary leader in implementing protocols. Cummings has previously served as director of human resources for the corporation, and prior to that served in a variety of roles with Fort Wayne Community Schools. Cummings’ career in education spans over two decades, and his contributions to the corresponding communities have been invaluable.
Cummings serves as a member of IU South Bend’s advisory board, and as an adjunct instructor at Indiana Institute of Technology. In 2019, Cummings was awarded Indiana University’s Bicentennial Medal, in recognition of his distinguished service and commitment to education and the university.
