Professor Włodzimierz Siwiński was born in 1939 in Poland. After finishing his studies and completing at internship at Kent State University, he joined the faculty at the University of Warsaw, where he has served in many positions, including as Rector of the university (1993-99).
Professor Siwinski served as the Associate Director of Polish Studies (along with Timothy Wiles, Director) in 1984-86, and he taught International Business at that time with Paul Marer (Kelley School of Business). He completed his second, final term as Rector of Warsaw University that semester (1999), after a number of terms in service to his university (earlier, as Director of the American Studies Center, and then, Vice Rector for International Programs).
He was awarded the IU President's Medal in recognition of Professor Siwinski's support of Polish Studies at IU in his twenty years of administrative service, and for the impact he has made on Indiana students and faculty during his several teaching visits here.
He has also received a number of international awards as well as an honorary doctorate from NYU (1999).
