About Benjamin Shoulders

Benjamin Shoulders grew up in Vanderburgh County and has a passion for serving his community. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice before returning to his hometown. Shoulders earned his Bank Management Certificate in 2010, and is a 2011 graduate of the Indiana Bankers Association Commercial Lending School. Shoulders has a long-standing relationship with Indiana University; he is a past president of the local Indiana University Alumni Association and has served on the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Board.

Shoulders was first elected as Vanderburgh County Commissioner in November of 2016; and currently serves as the president of the Vanderburgh County Commission. Shoulders is a Senior Commercial Lender at Banterra Bank, and has spent most of the last two decades working in the banking industry. He previously served on both the Area Plan Commission and as Treasurer of the Convention and Visitors' Bureaus Board of Commissioners after being appointed to the board by the Vanderburgh County Council in January of 2014.

As a devoted public servant and advocate for Vanderburgh County, Shoulders has served on numerous committees and non-profit boards, including, The Boys and Girls Club; GAGE (Growth Alliance of Greater Evansville) and Leadership Everyone. His years of service have led to professional and community honors and awards. Shoulders is one of only a select few individuals ever to be named a "Top 20 under 40: Emerging Leader" by the Evansville Business Journal and News4U Magazine. He received the City County Observer Community Service Award and the Harrison High School Hall of Fame. In 2019, Shoulders was honored with Indiana University's Bicentennial Medal, in recognition of his distinguished service and contributions to the university.
