Charles Mechling is an alumnus of Indiana University and a founding member of the professional American a cappella group, Straight No Chaser, that originated in 1996 at the university.
The group rose to an incredible level of success in 2007, when a 1998 video of the group performing "The 12 Days of Christmas" went viral with more than 8 million views and led to a five-album recording deal with Atlantic Records. The Christmas album the group released in 2008 claimed the #1 selling album on both iTunes and Amazon.com charts.
In 2009, Atlantic Record's Straight No Chaser won the CARA award for Best Holiday Album and was nominated for Best Holiday Song. In 2019, Mechling received Indiana University's Bicentennial Medal in recognition of his distinguished contributions.
