About Nichole Neuman

Nichole Neuman earned her M.A. in Germanic studies from the University of Minnesota in 2005. Upon completion, she continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she earned her M.A. in arts and cultural leadership and her Ph.D. in Germanic studies in 2013 and 2016, respectively. Neuman joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in 2019 as an assistant professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. She was also awarded the additional, honorary title of Hoyt-Reichmann Scholar in German American Studies in 2019.

Neuman’s academic interests include 20th and 21 century German and German-American cultural studies, cinema studies and archives, and representations of identity. At IU, Neuman teaches courses on topics related to the German language and culture. Her published works include single and co-authored texts in the edited volume Becoming TransGerman: Cultural Identity Beyond Geography and the journals The Moving Image, German Studies Review, Seminar, and Applied Linguistics.
