About Gunther Jikeli

Gunter Jikeli earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Technical University Berlin in 2004 and 2011, respectively. At Indiana University (IU), Jikeli serves as an associate professor of Germanic and Jewish studies. He currently holds the Erna B. Rosenfeld Professorship at IU’s Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism at the Borns Jewish Program.

Jikeli focuses his research on online and offline forms of contemporary antisemitism, and he runs the research lab “Social Media & Hate” at IU. He is the author of various publications, including a book titled “The Return of Religious Antisemitism?”. Serving as both an educator, researcher, and mentor, Jikeli offers supervision and advice for students seeking to study or write a thesis on topics related to antisemitism.

Throughout his robust teaching and research career, Jikeli has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including the Raoul Wallenberg Prize in Human Rights and Holocaust Studies in 2013 and he was named one of the “top 100 people positively influencing Jewish life” by The Algemeiner in 2019.
