Dr. Jamie Renbarger earned her B.S. from the University of Rochester in 1992 and her M.D. from Saint Louis University in 1996. She completed a pediatric residency at the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1999 and later a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2002. She later completed an additional fellowship in clinical pharmacology at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in 2003. She completed her M.S. degree at IU in 2006. She joined the IU faculty in 2002 as a visiting professor of clinical pediatrics. She has since held numerous appointments and titles throughout her time at IU. In 2019, she was awarded the additional, honorary title of Caroline Symmes Professor of Pediatric Cancer Research.
Renbarger’s research interests include the development and use of personalized medicine and pharmacogenomics in the treatment of childhood cancers. Her work involves a major effort to identify biomarkers of drug toxicity and efficacy in the treatment of pediatric cancers. Her ultimate goal is to develop a better understanding of how to treat individual children with cancer by curing the disease rather than controlling the symptoms.
Throughout her robust research, clinical, and teaching career, Renbarger has been recognized with several honors and awards. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the national medical honor society, in 2013. She is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and more.
