Dr. Terry Vik earned his B.A. and M.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1980 and 1983, respectively. He later completed a pediatric residency at the University of California in Los Angeles in 1986. Upon completion, he continued his clinical training at The Children’s Hospital in Boston where he completed a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship in 1989. He later completed a cellular and developmental biology research fellowship at Harvard University in 1991. Since joining the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) faculty as an assistant professor in 1991, Vik has held numerous titles and appointments at the university. In 2019, he was named the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center Professor of Hematology.
While at IUSM, Vik has served as a professor of clinical medicine, a professor of clinical pediatrics, and the director of the Childhood Cancer Survivor Program. Vik’s recent research primarily involves improving the diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer in low-income countries. In 2019, Vik traveled to Kenya as a Fulbright Scholar to train the first class of pediatric hematology-oncology fellows at Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya while also conducting research to demonstrate the lack of diagnosis of childhood cancers.
A well-established clinical professional, Vik is associated with several premier professional organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Children’s Oncology Group, and more.
