Michael W. King earned his B.S. in chemistry from Portland State University in 1980 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California in 1984. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He joined the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) faculty in 1989 as an assistant professor of biochemistry at the Terre Haute Center for Medical Education. He was promoted to associate professor in 1995 and full professor in 2002. In 2006, King began serving as IUSM’s Associate Director of Research in Terre Haute. He earned the additional, honorary title of Peggy L. Sankey Professor of Medical Education in 2019.
Prior to joining the IUSM faculty, King served as a senior research scientist at Synergen from 1988 to 1989. He is the owner and creator of ‘The Medical Biochemistry Page’, an online portal available to anyone interested in learning more about topics related to biochemical, metabolic, and physiological processes.
King has authored two books, both published by McGraw Hill, titled “High-Yield Q&A for USMLE Step 1: Biochemistry and Genetics” and “Integrative Medical Biochemistry: Examination and Board Review.” Both texts contain several review and practice questions for students preparing for medical licensing exams.
