Dr. Kathy Newell earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and her M.D. from the University of Kansas in 1985 and 1992, respectively. At the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), Newell serves as a professor of neurology and a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine. She also co-directs the Neuropathology Core. In 2019, she was awarded the additional, honorary title of Jay C. and Lucile L. Kahn Professor of Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Education.
Newell’s research and clinical practice focus on cellular and molecular analysis of brain tissue from postmortem examinations. She is a member of several prestigious, professional organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer Research and Treatment, the American Association of Neuropathologists, the International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias, and more.
