About Uranchimeg Tsultem

Uranchimeg Tsultem earned her M.A. and B.A. degrees from the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture in 1993 and 1995, respectively. Upon graduation, she continued her education at the University of California, Berkeley where she earned her Ph.D. in East Asian and Himalayan art history in 2009. Tsultem serves as the Edgar and Dorothy Fehnel Chair in Internal Studies and an assistant professor at the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).

Prior to joining the IUPUI faculty, Tsultem taught and served as co-chair of the Mongolia Initiative Program at the Institute of East Asian Studies. She held teaching positions at the National University of Mongolia, Yonsei University in South Korea, and the University of Iceland. As a scholar of Mongolian art and culture, Tsultem focuses her research on mainly Buddhist art and architecture and contemporary Asian art.

Tsultem is a recipient of several prestigious fellowships, which include awards by, among others, the Institute of Arts and Humanities at IUPUI (IAHI) (2020), by Library of Congress (2013) and American Council of Learned Societies (2014-2016).
