About Anne T. Leftwich

Anne T. Leftwich earned her B.S. in elementary education and M.A. in educational technology in technology coordination from Western Michigan University in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Upon graduation, she continued her education at Purdue University where she earned her Ph.D. in educational technology with an emphasis on teacher education in 2007. She joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in 2007 as an assistant professor in the Instructional Systems Technology Department. She began serving as an adjunct professor of computer science in 2017. She was promoted to associate professor in 2013 and full professor in 2021. She also began serving as the interim chair of the Instructional Systems Technology Department in 2021. She earned the additional, honorary title of Jacobs Chair in 2020.

Leftwich’s expertise lies in the areas of the design of technology/computer science K-12 curriculum resources, and development/implementation of professional development for teachers and teacher educators. She investigates ways to teach computer science and ways to prepare preservice and inservice teachers to teach CS. She is a co-PI for the ECEP alliance, which seeks to broaden participation in computing at the K-16 levels. Her research focuses on the adoption and implementation of technology and computer science at the K-12 levels.

Throughout her robust teaching and research career, Leftwich has been honored with numerous awards from prestigious organizations, including the Association for Educational Communications and Technology and the American Educational Research Association. She served as an MIT INSPIRE CS-Artificial Intelligence fellow from 2019 to 2021.
