Dr. Hull joined the School of Medicine faculty in 1976 where she remained a professor of pathology until her retirement in 2006. In 1994, while she was serving as president of the IUPUI Faculty Council, Dr. Hull led the Task Force on the Status of Women at IUPUI with Dean of the Faculties William Plater. When the task force issued its report in 1996, it recommended establishing the IUPUI Office for Women, and Dr. Hull become the office's first director that same year.
In that role, she created the IUPUI Commission on Women to address access to child care, gender equality issues, pay disparities, and sexual harassment. Dr. Hull led several programs and initiatives that offered new opportunities for advancement and leadership, especially for women, that ultimately shaped today's campus climate of diversity and inclusion. Dr. Hull's vision and legacy continue to thrive as the IUPUI Office for Women moves its mission forward through mentoring programs, leadership initiatives, workshops, and recognition events.
Dr. Hull received the IUPUI Glenn Irwin Experience Excellence Award in 1990 and 1994, and the IU Teaching Excellence Recognition Award in 1999. She is an Advanced Purdue Master Gardener and has been involved in many horticultural projects, including serving as head of the Medicinal Plant Demonstration Garden at the Indiana Medical History Museum in Indianapolis since 2003.
In recognition of her service to the IUPUI campus, including as president of the IUPUI Faculty Council and as founding director of the Office for Women, and her leadership on matters related to equity and inclusivity, Professor Emerita Dr. Kathleen Warfel Hull received an IUPUI 50th Anniversary Chancellor's Medallion from Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar during the 22nd Annual IUPUI Women's Leadership Reception on March 26, 2019.
