Maria Granger is an IU alumnus and the first judge to preside over Floyd Superior Court 3 for Floyd County, Indiana. Granger earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a J.D. from the IU McKinney School of Law. After being admitted to the Indiana Bar, she served as the deputy prosecuting attorney in Clark and Floyd Counties from 1995 to 2000. She then served as an attorney in general practice from 2000-2009, while also serving as a adjunct professor at IU Southeast. In 2009 she was appointed to the Floyd Superior Court and was named supervising judge of the Veterans Court of Southern Indiana in 2011. Since 2016, Granger has also served as a Commercial Court judge by appointment from the Indiana Supreme Court.
Granger received the Public Interest Law Award from the McKinney School of Law in 2016 and was elected to the American Law Institute in 2015. She was appointed to the board of directors for the Indiana Humanities Council by then Governor Mike Pence. She currently serves on the IU Southeast Board of Advisors (2019-2021).
Maria Granger received the IU Bicentennial Medal in June 2020 in recognition of her distinguished service to Indiana University Southeast.
