Steven Yin served as the onsite director of IU’s China Gateway office in Beijing from 2014 to 2025. Mr. Yin played an instrumental role in assisting IU faculty members to host academic conferences and workshops at the Gateway office; maintaining IU’s existing institutional partnerships and identifying and developing new faculty/student exchange and research links with Chinese universities; and supporting IU’s international student recruitment and alumni engagement activities in China. Before joining IU, Mr. Yin was the deputy director of the EducationUSA China program at the U.S. Embassy Beijing, where he was one of the founding members of the office and contributed significantly to developing EducationUSA China into a global role model within the EducationUSA network.
Prior to joining EducationUSA in 2009, Steven had a four-year career in information management at the Careers Service office at the University of Warwick, England, and, after returning to China, worked as project officer at the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing, where he was responsible for the establishment and support of all Confucius Institutes in eight European countries.
Mr. Yin holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Zhengzhou University, China, and a master’s degree in management from Lancaster University, England.
