Bicentennial Medal - 2020

About Dina M. Kellams

Dina Kellams is an IU alumna, associate librarian and director of the Indiana University Archives. Kellams earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University and is an alumnus of the 2010 Archives Leadership Institute.

Kellams joined the University Archives in 1999, becoming Director in 2015. As the Director of the Archives, her goal is to ensure constituents know about the Archives' rich and varied collection and services. With her staff and in collaboration with colleagues throughout IU, she works diligently to further integrate the archives into the pedagogical mission of the University. Her research interests include student life, Indiana University history, and teaching with primary sources. In 2017, she helped establish the Libraries' Primary Source Immersion Program for Indiana University instructors as well as the Stories from IU Special Collections speaker series.

Kellams regularly presents on Indiana University history to campus and community groups. She contributed a chapter on Joseph C. Muhler to Indiana's 200: The People Who Shaped the Hoosier State (Indiana Historical Society Press, 2015); and is a contributing author to Indiana University Bloomington: America's Legacy Campus (J. Terry Clapacs, with Dina Kellams and Carrie Schwier, Indiana University Press, 2017) and Women at Indiana University: Views of the Past and the Future (Andrea Walton, editor; forthcoming Indiana University Press). She is also a regular contributor to 200: The Bicentennial Magazine.

Kellams professional affiliations include the Society of American Archivists, the Midwest Archives Conference, and the Society of Indiana Archivists, all of which she has served in leadership roles or contributed to through committee work. On campus, she has served or lead a number of committees and working groups, including the Indiana University Bicentennial Planning Group (2007-present), the University Records Management Working Group (2017-present) and several terms of membership on the Bloomington Library Faculty Council, including serving as President in 2008-2009.

Kellams received the IU Bicentennial Medal in August 2020 in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the Indiana University Bicentennial.
