Kenneth P. Nephew earned his B.S. in animal sciences and M.S. in dairy science and reproductive physiology from The Ohio State University in 1983 and 1986, respectively. He later earned his Ph.D. in animal sciences and reproductive physiology from The Ohio State University in 1991. Nephew began his academic career at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine in 2007. He has since held numerous appointments and titles at the university. In 2020, he was awarded the additional, honorary title of Jerry W. and Peggy S. Throgmartin Professor of Oncology.
Nephew’s major research interests include women’s cancers and translational research; cancer epigenetics, cancer stem cells; nuclear receptors, steroid hormone action, and hormone-associated cancers; and drug resistance. At IUSM, he teaches courses related to obstetrics and gynecology, molecular cellular biochemistry, and cellular and integrative physiology.
Throughout his research and academic career, Nephew has been recognized with an array of honors, awards, and opportunities. He completed the Doane and Eunice Dahl Wright Predoctoral Fellowship in 2018. He was awarded the University Graduate School Faculty Mentor Award from the Graduate and Professional Student Government in 2016. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, two of which include the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
